Simon Horsfield on his way to victory in AAA Championships in Bedford
Simon Horsfield has been selected to represent Great Britain & NI in the 1500m at the European Under 20 Campionships, which will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia from 23-26th July. This selecion came about from Simon improving his 1500m time to 3.42 and his 3000m time to 8.06. Simon also won the Under 20 1500m AAA Championships in Bedford on 28th June. Simon's intelligent race tactics took him to the title galloping away from the field in the last 200m, with a time of 3.46.92.
James Shaw departs on Sunday 5th July to compete in the 2009 Global Games which incorporate the 7th Athletics World Championships of the International Sports Federation for People with an Intellectual Disability (INAS-FID) as part of the Great Britain squad headed for Liberec in Czechoslovakia. The games take place between the 5th and 14th July. Twenty-Three Countries are competing in the athletics competition which will take place at the Jablonec nad Nisou Stadium. James has a tough schedule ahead of him next week as he is selected to compete in the 3000m steeplechase on 7th at 14.45, 10,000m on 9th at 16.05 and 5,000m on 11th at 15.50. The steeplechase represents James's strongest event.
East Cheshire's junior athletes are currently placed in second position in The National Young Athletes League after four matches. The final match takes place on Sunday 19th July in Carlisle, with the hope of our juniors gaining promotion to the Premier Division. Good Luck!
