Ken Blackman
Middle Distance, hurdles and sprints
I joined East Cheshire Harriers in 1948. After five years service in the Brigade of Guards, I returned to the club. In 1955 I qualified as an A.A.A. Coach, acquiring my knowledge from attending courses at Loughborough, Carnegie and the English College, Fredensborg, Denmark.
Some years later I joined The Manchester & Salford Playing Fields Society and organised their Coaching Scheme held at Melland Playing Fields, near Belle Vue. This resulted in the construction of a running track which covered all events - the first in Manchester.
During my coaching I have been fortunate to come across two young men who became internationals at my specialist event - the 800m.
