Tuesday 19th August

On Friday 15th August a group of East Cheshire athletes travelled to Tywyn in South Wales for the 'Race The Train' event held on the Saturday. The Rotary Challenge consisted of 14miles multi-terrain running with 6 ECH athletes battling it out to beat the train. The aim is to beat the train which takes 1.48.00 to reach the station in Tywyn. Marcus Gregory was the first ECH runner home with a brilliant time of 1.38.04 finishing 68th. Stephen Robinson came 104th with a superb 1.41.16 and Andy Farley ran well to clock 1.43.53 finishing 146th. A great battle between Derek Hughes and Paul Kenny saw them beating the train just with 1.46.29 and 1.46.31 respectively. Tony Faulkner battled his way around the course coming 471st overall with 2.07.47.

The Quarry Challenge was ran over a distance of 10k with the aim of beating the train which takes approxiamtely 55minutes. Gavin Browne ran a cracking race finishing 4th overall with 39.12. Liam Browne was next home running well after not racing for a long time finishing 37th with 47.15. John Harrod beat the train clocking 51.23 coming 79th. Howard Molloy came back from Cyprus to compete after not training for a while and he was more than happy with 57.54.

The Dolgoch Challenge is about 5miles multi-terrain running with the aim of running 45minutes to beat the train. David Barratt had a great race finishing 5th with 32.15, not bad for his first taste of the race. Jade Flynn and Leah Owen enjoyed the race running around together in 44.01 just beating the train.

One ECH athlete ran the Tynllwynhen Challenge (3miles), which was Leon Gregory running well to take 2nd position with 16.42 beating the train easily. All in all it was a great weekend of camping in the rain and enjoying what is a brilliant event!
